National Goals

Believers College Prep’s purpose is to stimulate a national movement so that:

  • It becomes normal for students to prepare and transition well to campus ministries and Christian colleges so that most of these students remain in the faith.
  • Campus ministries become significantly more effective in the first semester due to help from prepared incoming freshmen with a vision to change the campus.
  • The runaway student debt crises becomes largely abated in Christian circles due to wise council and the ability to negotiate lower tuition at private colleges. Money is freed up to enable ministry or to enroll younger siblings at Christian schools.
  • Students prepare well for viable careers and life calling, and avert the typical 53% of grads either not working or in non-degree jobs.
  • Christian schools become community leaders in these areas and impact the churches around them. It is expected that this will have a positive effect on enrollment, as well.
  • Now being accelerated - Believers College Prep provided part of the vision and content to launch www.CampusMinistryLink.org nationally.  In late 2016 national ministries and denominations will begin working together to help every US Christian student to transition to college well.  Believers College prep will be providing services to help families avoid debt.  This will also be a funding source for local ministry people in this cause.  See right column

History

Believers College Prep, directed by John Decker, is a division of College Assistance Plus which was founded in 2004 ,born out of a relationship Paul Celuch had with the late Larry Burkett from Crown Financial Ministries. While running Crown classes in his church, he saw that today’s students were graduating life-crippling debt, and often without jobs. This hampered young people from succeeding, having a good marriage, or moving into ministry. The national client engagement team have become the leading national experts in all aspects of college including negotiating lower costs and finding fitting and marketable majors. Christian High Schools and Churches

College Assistance Plus/Believers College Prep is an Approved Provider for the approximately 1500 ACSI Christian High Schools in the US. with a mission to reverse the US 70% faith drop-out when students enter college, prepare them to impact the campuses, and shrink the crippling level of debt carried by students in churches and schools nationally.  See ACSI link.

Our goal is to help prepare the next generation of leaders to find their purpose and calling, and to provide parents with tools for college preparation, major and career selection, decisions regarding a Christian or Secular college, connecting with campus ministries in advance, and helping students to thrive academically, socially, spiritually and financially.  We want to see each student emerge from college with a viable career and/or ministry and with the lowest possible student loan debt so they can have a good start in life.

Ministry Vision

While with InterVarsity, John saw that two situations were amiss on college campuses. All campus fellowships focus on reaching new unbelievers during the first weeks on campus, before they are assimilated into their new peer groups. This is a brief period of time, a sweet-spot, when new students are open to almost anything. The best people to reach these freshmen are other freshmen in their dorms, but freshmen don’t realize this until they are sophomores. What would it be like in America if it became normal for high school juniors and seniors (who admittedly often start getting a bit bored with the faith), could sample and visualize campus ministry and seeing students transformed in their midst.  InterVaristy Article on this history.

” While contemplating the possibilies, I recall an InterVarsity chapter in Geneseo one year where a freshman was wonderfully changed by the presence of Christ and was so visible to the dorm, that something like 26 other students in that dorm came to Christ that semester.  I’m sure they returned home for Christmas with great stories that invigorated their churches and schools. What would our youth groups and colleges look like in America if this became normal?”

Then while working as the Northeast Director of Youth Transition Network, John saw that any church or Christian school who prepared and connected their youth to campus ministries via www.LiveAbove.com went from losing the typical 70% to keep most students in the faith.  As a result, we have an historic opportunity to see some of the following take place in our nation:

MOBILIZING & FUNDING THE MOVEMENT Our nation is in urgent need to mobilize and fund more workers to help this generation reach their potential and transform universities and society.   Often the time it takes to raise funding for workers is inordinately long, as was experienced by YTN as it sought to get this message in every community.  Believer’s College Prep is able to function as a “tent-maker” model to help other youth and college ministry people as a supplement for or replacement of other fund development means.
